Algorithm Optimization for Reflection Spectrum Calculation on Temperature Stress of Continuous Welded Railway Track Sensed by Fiber Grating |

Abstract Continuous Welded Railway Track (CWRT) which can improve comfort degree for
passengers is now being laid in most of the Chinese intercity rail lines.
However, as longer and always in open environment it is, CWRT is bearing
much larger longitudinal temperature stress variation than those normal
tracks, severe incidents like snapping apart could happen to CWRT and thus
great economic loss would be brought. At present, inhomogeneous Fiber Bragg
Grating (FBG) is considered as the best sensor used in temperature stress
measurement and danger situation warning for its stable
temperature-insensitivity and its high sensitivity in frequency selection.
Nevertheless, the algorithm for reflection spectrum calculation widely used
nowadays is still based on the traditional coupled-mode theory, the
calculation process is too complicated for inhomogeneous FBG and requires
large amount of hardware support. In this paper, an optimized algorithm is
proposed not only making a perfect approximation of the coupled-mode theory
but also simplifying the calculation process to a great extent, and via
numerical example, the correctness and reliability of the algorithm has been
proved.
