Comparative Study on the \textit{Maximum Subarray Problem} Based on \emph{PAR} Method and Other Methods |

Abstract Partition-and-Recur (\emph{PAR}) method is a simple and useful
formal method used to design and prove algorithmic programs. In this
paper, we address that \emph{PAR} method is an effective formal
method on solving combinatorics problems. Furthermore, we formally
derive \textit{maximum subarray problem} by \emph{PAR} method which
can not only simplify the process of algorithmic program's designing
and correctness testifying, but also can assure their correctness
on logic. In order to make comparisons of time complexity, we also
solve the \textit{maximum subarray problem} based on the
\emph{exhaustive search} method and \emph{divide-and-conquer}
method. Finally, the analysis of time complexity shows that the
$O(n)$ linear time of the \emph{PAR} method is proved to be optimal,
compared with the $O(n^{2})$ time of the \emph{exhaustive search}
method and the $O(n \log (n))$ time of the \emph{divide-and-conquer}
method.
